Hard-core snobs won't like it, but for the coffee addict on the go, this is a heck of a lot better than most other single-serve machine on the market- and the price is right.
Positive Product Points
Fastest way to a single-serving mug of coffee out there. In addition to k-cups, you can also use fresh ground coffee and even coffee pods IF you go and buy a couple of accessories. It delivers a reliable dose of perfectly heated water for a single-serve French press or a small tea-pot.
Negative Product Points
It only brews 7.25 ounce cups (while more expensive Keurig machines offer larger and smaller drop sizes.) The machine can sometimes clog if you use a full 2 tbls of coffee grounds into the My K-cup filter basket kit. K-cups can be pricey.
Detailed Commentary
OK- I know what some of y'all are thinking. You're a hard-core coffee geek who only drinks fresh-roasted coffee and there is no way a k-cup is going to be fresh enough no mater how well-sealed it might be.
If you're thinking that, you won't like ANY pod or k-cup system anyway. So move along now and save yourself the trouble.
For the rest of us who can sometimes sacrifice a bit of freshness for some convenience, let me assure you- k-cups make pretty darned good coffee. Not great. Not world class. Not uber-brew. But pretty darn good coffee pretty darn quickly and w/ no effort on your part. When you just need a cup of joe-juice and you don't have time or energy to get your snob on, this machine does the trick.
And when it is full-on coffee geek time, you can use this as the most convenient water source for your French Press you've ever used.
Buying Experience
Bought at Target. Red shirts, kids screaming for toys, a Charbucks in the lobby which I never can pass without coughing up $4.00 for a so-so drink. You know the drill.
