Simple reliable coffee maker that makes a strong brew.
Positive Product Points
Brews at appropriate temperature Unique water delivery system that creates a full-flavored brew Simple aesthetically-pleasing design Easy to descale and clean
Negative Product Points
Replacement filters hard to find (can use cloth) Takes a bit of tweaking to find the right grind/dose combination You'll want a carafe to go with it
After reading many reviews of this product, I decided to try it out as my everyday morning coffee maker. The price was much less than a Technivorm, so I thought it was a worthy gamble given its positive reviews. I bought mine from an eBay seller, and got it for <$100 with shipping. Many reviews that I read discussed the sensitivity of this device to changes in beans, grind, and dose. It does take a bit of experimentation, but once you figure out the best combination for your taste, you'll be making coffee like you've never had before. The resulting brew is very full-flavored due to the water delivery system that brews slightly higher than atmospheric pressure, and the fact that it's extracting at the appropriate temperature. Since it brews into an uninsulated glass carafe you'll want to buy a thermos or insulated carafe to store the coffee once it has brewed. The machine does not include very many paper filters, but I've been using a cloth filter for a Yama vacpot, and it works just fine (and is reusable). As other reviews have mentioned, it doesn't have an automatic shut-off switch, but I don't see that as a big priority since I'm usually hovered over the machine waiting for my morning coffee.
After using this machine every morning for nearly two years, I have absolutely no complaints. The machine is very simple and durable, and is easy to clean and descale (which I do about every couple months). The best part is the awesome coffee it makes.
Bought it on eBay... can't remember which seller. Everything was great. No experience with Krups customer service so far (I haven't needed it).
