Positive Product Points

The Melitta Mill n Brew is a one stop shop for grinding and brewing.  The grinder has 4 grind "time" settings, uses a gold mesh filter and brews a good cup of coffee.  The finish is black plastic and the buttons and labels are easy to read and use.  All parts are available on the internet or on ebay.  Cleaning is easy.

Negative Product Points

Light weight construction indicates a small water heater system.  No insulated carafe.  Machine uses a hot/warming plate to keep the coffee hot.

Detailed Commentary

I purchased my Melitta Mill n Brew from a Sears Appliance store in Bolingbrook, Il.  The unit was on clearance for 39.00 reduced from 99.00.  The unit was well designed and super easy to use.  My wife and I brewed coffee almost daily in this machine.  About the 3rd year, the latch to the cover of the brewing/grinding compartment broke, but oddly enough we found the that unit worked fine in its broken state.  It produced a good cup of coffee.  In the 4th and 5th year we used the unit less instead using our Rancilio Silvia to making caffè americano's.  My one complaint had to do with the glass carafe.  I really wish that Melitta had used an insulated carafe as often times the coffee wasn't that scalding hot that it needs to be to achieve the good extraction.

We used the machine almost right up to its 6th year and around Christmas of 08 the poor little sucker bit the dust.  Overall, with good coffee, it made a better cup of joe than I could get at Starbucks and occasionally at Caribou.

Buying Experience

My buying experience was good.  After all it was Sears.
