Came with flaky residue, apparently from 'test coffee'. But cleaned up fine (as recommended before first use). Recommendation of 2 tbs. per 6 oz of water is way too much coffee for my tastes, and I like it bold. I would say 1 tbs. for 4 oz. is a good starting point.
Detailed Commentary
Replaced a 'conventional' maker with the Solo. Worlds of difference. Great quality, piping hot process, tumbler insulation is excellent. I am the only one who drinks C in the house, so it's perfect. I will pick up another tumbler to have on hand. Recommendation of 2 tbs. per 6 oz. is way too much coffee! Came with residue inside, supposedly flakes from a test blend. It cleaned up nicely though. Local Starbucks had 10 bucks off, nice deal! 2 year warranty is longer than most any prodcut these days, except perhaps a refrigerator or car. Easy to understand manual, plus Starbucks website answers additional questions.
