Detailed Commentary
I bought this coffee maker after reading all the reviews both here and in alt.coffee. At first I could not justify spending $200 for this coffee maker but Boyds ran a sale and I just could not pass it up. I had just bought a Bunn and was not real happy with it and I figured what the heck only an extra $59. Boy am I happy I spent that! What can I say it makes a great drip cup of coffee. If you like convenience and the familiarity of drinking drip coffee this is the one to buy. It is very convenient to use. I like the clear plastic water tank. It is very easy to pour the correct amount of water for however many cups you like. It would be nice if the lid had a hinge but no big deal just taking it off. Same with the coffee basket. Just take the lid off and remove the cone and fill with the appropriate amount of coffee. The thermos is also a nice feature. No more burnt coffee flavor.
My dislikes...you have to remember to shut off the heating element switch on the front. Although with this model when you remove the thermal carafe there is a small switch on the side which shuts this off. I just don't like this. What happens if somebody puts the carafe back against this switch and it stays on all day? The instructions don't really address this issue. While we are talking about instruction they are very very minimal. You are kind of on your own here. I still have not 100% figured out everything including the three position switch on the filter cone. Also on the thermal carafe the pour spout is a little too wide. When I go to pour the coffee into my travel thermos not all the coffee goes into the thermos, some goes down the sides. Also on the screw in top one side of the top has a wider opening for better pouring. Unfortunately this is not marked. Also as long as I am nitpicking a glass carafe would have been better in my opinion.
Overall I really like this coffee maker for what it is, the best drip machine out there. However on the weekends and when I have a little more time I use my vacuum pots.
