The coffee flavor is better than most American products; it does not contain that overly bitter taste produced by the too high temperature of the heating element of the American manufacturers. The brew goes straight into the thermos.
Negative Product Points
Because it does not have a bottom heater the cofee is never hot enough even if you preheat the thermos. There are too many detachable parts to the product. The "mid-stop" switch goes on too easily during cleaning causing flooding during operation if you forget to check it Using a full 10-cup fill causes dripping. The coffee always needs microwave reheating.
Detailed Commentary
This is a sleek efficient looking product and slightly higher in price than its American competition. It was rated highly in a Cook's Illustrated competition which is usually a take-to-the-bank dependable review system . The heating system itself seems to be of excellent design and well thought out. The problem is in its inability to keep the coffee hot, to pevent leakage, and too many detachable parts which is distinctly annoying. I am sorry I purchased it. There appears to be a distinct lack of quality product in filter drip coffee makers in the middle price range nowadays. Unless one wishes to spend thousands of dollars on an imported model of impressive size your fate is settling on office quality coffee every morning. Perhaps it is time to try going back to Mom's percolater.
