Detailed Commentary
I've had my Technivorm for about a year and am still very happy with it. I use it most mornings (espresso in the afternoon). Yes, it is expensive, but I still think worth the price, and unlike some, I like the look of it. It is the best drip coffee I've ever made. With freshly roasted coffee, you can get a smooth and rich cup, without bitterness. It boils water very quickly because of the copper heating element, and since there is no pump, the water can only be delivered once it boils ensuring the right temperature.
I chose this over Bunn because of the looks and I didn't want to keep water hot all day as the bunn units do.
Anyone purchasing the TV should review Sweet Maria's instructions on the unit, as they are very helpful. I do use their recommendation of 1/2 flow for fewer than 6 cups, or full flow for 6 or more. HOWEVER, I find I enjoy the coffee more without messing with (stirring, agitating, leering at, or otherwise molesting) the grounds. This makes it less labor intensive for me to use, as I set it and forget it.
I recommending getting the brew through lid. It allows me to start the coffee before showering in the morning without worrying about the carafe lid being off and losing heat. I have no problem with the carafe losing heat as some reviews have complained about. If you put the standard lid on the carafe immediately after brewing, the coffee will stay hot for hours. Another plus is the brew through lid pours better than the standard screw top lid.
Buying Experience
I purchased the TV from Sweet Maria's. They initially sent me the 8 cup version, although I bought and paid for the 10 cup. They quickly shipped me out the correct unit with a return receipt enclosed. I purchased from SM's because I use them for my green coffee purchases and wanted to support them, but Roastmasters.com includes a bunch of freebies including the brew through lid and a gold filter and free shipping. That was a hard deal to pass up, so for others not loyal to SM's, it is the best deal since everyone charges the same price for the unit, although I know nothing about Roastmaster's customer service!
