Detailed Commentary
The difference in brewing temperature for this unit compared to any other on the market is significant.
Most home models will not brew at temperatures over 190 degrees while the MoccaMaster brews at approximately 205 degrees. Just shy of boiling water, at least at sea level, you get maximum extraction of everything the coffee has to give.
About the only drawback of coffee brewed at that temperature, is it's just too hot to drink as soon as it's brewed. At that temperature, it's hot enough to scald the mouth, and so hot it's hard to taste the coffee. But as soon as it cools a little, it's amazing what 15 degrees can render out of the same coffee grounds.
In fact, we found we needed to reduce the amount of coffee dosage just a little, because the extraction was so good. Worth the money? You betcha! For the body it can produce with good coffee it's worth every penny, and I'll wait for it to cool.
We actually used this for a coffee service in an office environment and it worked flawlessly. Everyone raved about the coffee, and it never had a chance to get old. They never found out if it could get cold in the thermal pot, because it never lasted that long.
In an 8 person office, they were going through 4 boxes of 50, 1.9 oz. packets weekly.
