Reliable consistent grinder with an infinite level of grind adjustment
Positive Product Points
- Solid, weighty machine - Good quality body and burrs - Fineness is infinitely adjustable with a worm gear adjuster - takes a while to get it just right the first time but from then on you'll have an absolutely consistent grind every time. - Love the doverless system - the only way to make a fresh grind every time - Absolutely NO static problems - Easy to clean and service (although takes a few goes to recalibrate the grind)
Negative Product Points
The hopper seems a bit feable - just plastic, but I suppose a glass one would be very heavy and more expensive Some coffee remains in the grinder after each grind so you'll always get some of the previous grind each time you use it.
Detailed Commentary
This is a solid, well built machine with a good finish that uses good quality components.
The doserless system basically means when you grind the coffee it falls directly into the brewhead so none of it should be left sitting around to go bad. Inevitably some does remain in the grinder or at the top of the chute but it seems this is a small proportion of the actual amount you use each time so I'm not overly concerned.
The way they have implemented it is great though - i have never had a problem with the ground coffee having static, it just slides down into the brewhead with no mess at all.
Grinding is easy as all you have to do is push your brewhead against a nice shiney push-switch and that triggers the motor - so easy!
The plastic chute on mine has a small fracture in it and could have been made a bit better, but i don't find that important.
The precision with which you can adjust the fineness of the grind is amazing - this is good because you can get it just right (no presets here!) and it will perform consistently forever more. The drawback of course is that evertime you take it apart to give it a clean and hoover, it takes a while to recalibrate the right setting back, but just buy some cheap coffee for that operation and it doesn't take that long really.
Would I buy it again? absolutely! I'd only improve it by having a smooth glass chute and a glass hopper but otherwise i'm completely happy.
Buying Experience
They have a good selection of machines in their showroom and I bought it in the Harrods sale so was a good price.
