Infinite grind control, great style, good buy (but not cheap in my book)
Positive Product Points
Infinite grind control, consistent too Can grind more fine than ever required Not too loud
Negative Product Points
Does retain some ground coffee in the chute, but easy to clean out. Other reviewers have commented on removing screws etc etc. I find this unnecessary. I use a chopstick to twiddle around inside the chute and this clears 97% of retained coffee. As I use it everyday, I just do a weekly clean. So to me, this is no big deal.
Detailed Commentary
I love the grinder. I was using a much cheaper Breville Cafe Roma burr grinder which frustrated me for years. I don't know why I didn't buy a quality grinder sooner!
To me the Ascaso grinder was not cheap - in fact twice what my espresso is worth. (The original Cafe Roma espresso is a 15 bar machine that may be cheap, but makes delicious coffee)
I wanted something that could grind 'professionally'. So I um'ed and ah'ed and made the purchase. I'm so very glad I did.
The Ascaso is value for me because of the consistent grind it makes, and the fact I can grind anything from super-fine powder to course grind. The continuous control from course to fine is a blessing. You can tweak your grind until it is perfect for your machine. Tweakers delight!
It does retain some ground coffee in the chute, but then I imagine this is not uncommon with this type of design. After all, espresso grind is quite fine and prone to sticking... To me this is absolutely no big deal, as I use it every day. You just need to give it a poke once a week. No drama.
I'm pleased I spent the money, and am wondering why I didn't do it sooner.
Buying Experience
Tangs Vivocity (dept store) in Sinagpore. Great service. They let me try the demo model before buying.
