Best price performer on the market. Solid build, consistent results, stable weight, easy adjustability. Compact, handsome, tough. Kinda like Brad Pitt.
Positive Product Points
Solid grinder for home user. Much heavier and more stable than lesser models. Can be activated by timer on side or push button above dosing chamber. Very adjustable from espresso to french. Compact design. Cute little bugger.
Negative Product Points
It's slower than the Macap I use daily but is that a fair comparison? Macap is on the nearly pro level. Gotta turn the machine over to remove beans from hopper if you're gonna change 'em. Like all grinders, some grounds get stuck in the chute but I find a gentle tap on the side of the Virtuoso releases them easily enough.
Detailed Commentary
Great grinder for the price. I believe Baratza made some improvements to this lil beasty since some reviews have been posted on CG. No rattles here. Solid burrs grind consistent results. It's small so it won't displace much on your kitchen counter. It's even shorter than la Pavoni Europiccola and makes a fine mate to this machine. The removeable dosing box is handy to dump ground coffee into your presspot or take out the dosing box and slip yer portafilter under the chute then push the button for one-handed operation! Clever!! This model (Virtuoso) is way more stable than the lighter weight siblings so it won't get knocked about so easily by ham fisted caffeine starved fools in the AM. It is designed smartly enough to use even when you are as yet unprimed by coffee and sleepyheaded. I got this for my girlfriend for everyday use and it definitely holds up. Long Live Fresh Ground top quality Coffee!
Buying Experience
The folks at Baratza.com are a pleasure to do business with. They sometimes have "refurbished" machines for a discount that are like new but were returned as buyer's remorse models. Don't return this little gem, just pop for the heavy duty Virtuoso and you won't look back until you upgrade to a much more expensive Macap (because you're a consumption driven 'merikan).
