I would buy this again in a heartbeat. I would also buy anthing from this company almost just to get the unsurpassed service they provide. This confidence was shaken by the failure of the fixed burr holder.
Positive Product Points
Ease of operation, Consistency of particle size. Customer service. Still evidences great customer service in making whole the customer after a problem occurs.
Negative Product Points
Small amount of fines distributed on the counter alongside grinder.
UPDATE: I discovered that there is a negative for this grinder by having the fixed burr carrier break. I discovered it when I cleaned the grinder. Without some practical objective way to measure the size and distribution of sizes there is no way to determine that this part has failed except visual when cleaning. So I have no idea how long it has been broken and how it has affected my espresso. Baratza CS told me that they consider this as a fail safe in that the part that failed may have saved the burrs by failing when encountering some foreign material (pebbles).
I think that this is one of the finest grinders at the price point currently available.
I used it to grind my plunger pot charge as one of the first things I did with it, My previous pot grinds were with a super market grinder and I had to chew the coffee results there was so much sediment in the cup. I was very pleasantly surprised when there was next to NO sediment.
I haved used this grinder to grind beans for Toddy cold brew, espresso, pour over using a gold tone filter, moka pot with the same excellent results. I'm still in the process of dialing in the espresso grind for different beans and roasts.
I bought this as a refurb from Baratza direct. Had absolutely no problem setting it up and have no problems with using the grinder. I also bought a shut-off hopper to help with the switching different beans. Learning to properly set the shut off has been the biggest problem for me since I am the biggest obstacle to using it properly and I got a lot of experience sweeping beans off the floor.
The customer support is many cuts above the average support that we now have come to expect from various vendors. An e-mail request for help is usually replied to within 24 hours even if then person who usually answers that particular request is out of town. I got a message saying that person is out of town and someone else would try to help. I also bought a refurb Esatto weigh controller that didn't work out of the box. Every effort was made by several people to help but it had to be returned. Jens sent me a prepaid RMA and label and set up a refund so it didn't cost me anything except the original shipping.
UPDATE: Subsequent to my previous review the fixed burr broke, when I reported this to CS they promised to mail a replacement or I could return the grinder for a refund. I elected to accept anew part and told them I wanted a second part to keep on hand incase this failure was repeated. They have shipped both at no charge to me.
Three Month Followup
Unfortunately the fixed burr holder failed after three months of service. Baratza quickly replaced the holder and added a spare at no cost. However, they know that the holder fails frequently and they treat it as a fail safe part that protects the rest of the grinder from foreign objects in among the beans. That is understandable however it has placed me in the position of losing confidence in the company and its products.
