It produces a good grind, without the burnt taste of a blade grinder.
Negative Product Points
The bin that catches the ground coffee became loose after only a couple of months. If you don't stand there and hold it, it slides out and ground coffee goes everywhere. I discovered after that fact that Bodum will not replace this part, and requires that you buy a new one if it breaks.
Detailed Commentary
This grinder started out very well. I had only used blade grinders prior to this, and was amazed at the difference in quality between the blade grinder and the Bodum Antigua Burr Grinder. The amount selector was completely variable so I could tweak the amount to get the perfect brew. The bin that catches the grounds stayed firmly in place and removed easily to allow transfer to my Melitta filter cone. (I do not use automatic coffe makers).
However in less than nine months, the bin that catches the ground coffee became loose and slid out during grinding. If I don't stand there and hold it in place, the ground coffee spews all over my counter, requiring me to break out the dust buster, and waste good coffee. I contacted Bodum as the product was still under warranty. They informed me that the warranty doesn't cover plastic parts (the entire grinder is plastic!) I would have to purchase a new coffee catcher and pay for shipping, with no guarantee that it would fix the problem.
No product should break in any way after such a short time. Bodum's refusal to take responsibility for an obvious design flaw only compounds the issue. I would avoid this grinder and the Bodum company in general.
