Bottom Line: Great burr grinder for drip coffee, not great for espresso.
Positive Product Points

Matches my other Breville products, handy storage compartment, inexpensive.

Negative Product Points

Takes up some space on the counter, doesn't grind fine enough, kinda hard to clean, doesn't allow direct grind flow to portafilter (needs plastic reservoir to catch grinds), plastic reservoir creates static & grinds stick.

Detailed Commentary

I received this grinder as a wedding gift after registering for it from The Bay. I've only owned blade grinders as I haven't been able to find an affordable burr grinder so this is definitely a step up. I haven't been using it too long & although this grinder grinds much finer grinds than my old blade grinder, it still doesn't grind the beans fine enough. The consistency of the grind is excellent & I enjoy the storage bin for ground espresso. After reading on this site, I'm going to look into doing the mod to get a finer grind.

Buying Experience

Received as a wedding gift.

Three Month Followup

Modified to create a finer grind. However, freshly roasted beans clog the burrs on the finest setting.

One Year Followup

Over a year after owning this grinder it is still working flawlessly (other than not being able to grind on the finest setting with freshly-roasted beans). However, I recently upgraded my espresso machine from the Breville 820ESXL to the La Pavoni Profressional. Although I can make okay shots with the modified grinder, I'm still having trouble getting the grind fine enough to produce a decent amount of crema. This grinder still works great grinding for my syphon coffee and drip coffee but just can't get it fine enough for espresso. My espresso has significantly gotten better since upgrading to the Rancilio Rocky. Sold this grinder.
