An OK grinder at this price point, especially for drip or French press, but they need better motors!
Positive Product Points
Easy to use, takes up a small space, consistent grind at every setting. No static issues to speak of. Excellent customer service and 3-year warranty.
Negative Product Points
Unreliable motors, a bit noisy, and the timer knob is flimsy. It's also kind of homely-looking in a modern kitchen...
Detailed Commentary
This is my daily grind machine for drip. Have never used for espresso. It does a really great job of grinding French press and drip with great consistency of grind size, unlike my Solis Maestro which does fine grinds well and coarse grinds with poor consistency. Guess I need to keep both of them, or sell both and get a Rocky or better!
My main issue with the BCG grinder is that the motors will suddenly stop, never to start again, even with regualr cleaning and maintenance. I am now on grinder #4 under warranty! I only grind coffee once or twice a day, so burnout is really premature. One of them even had a little smoke waft up after it died. The good news is that Bunn customer service is fast and efficient, and although the unit goes back to them at your expense, a brand-new one arrives to take its place in a very few days.
Seems like it would be better if they just put a stronger motor in it to start with, so far the warranty replacements have cost me an extra $45 in shipping charges!
Buying Experience
DC Coffee is a great outfit to buy from, personal service from John Hupp, a real standup guy.
