If the only coffee you make is drip with a paper filter- this would be an alright grinder, but so would just about anything else. I would suggest you pass on this item, and find something that is manufactured with more precision.
Positive Product Points
Just better than a blade grinder
Negative Product Points
Like I said.... Just better than a blade grinder- very uneven grind.
Detailed Commentary
Took it apart to see what might be the problem causing such an irregular grind, and found that the 2 burr plates were not perfectly parallel. The lower burr that is mounted directly to the motor shaft is askew, and this slight angle causes the burrs to be very close together on on side, and further apart on the other- resulting in an uneven grind. I tried to shim up one side of the motor by adding a thin washer to the motor mount- but it just thew it out of alignment in another direction. I exchanged it hoping a different one would be manufactured with more precision- but no luck. Unfortunately, my wife says it has to stay for at least another year, because it was a wedding gift from someone who visits frequently.
Buying Experience
It was a gift from our wedding registry, and Macy's handled the exchange kindly when I wanted to try a second one.
