It's inspiring getting the most out of this "first buy machine", but when you´ve done so you will soon want to upgrade.
Positive Product Points
It’s cheap, small and looks ok.
Negative Product Points
Extremely noisy and messy due to static and the wierd shape of the container. You have to hold down the ON/OFF switch while grinding.
Detailed Commentary
I don’t really know what to expect from a grinder at this price. When I first got it I thougt this would be a machine I could live with for quite some time, but I already (after less than a year) feel I have to upgrade.
Anyway: the MM is small, which is great when you have a small kitchen. It’s light weight and I can easily move it around when I have to make room for other projects – like cooking. I like the retro look of it too. It doesn’t turn you on and it won’t affend anyone, but it’s still pretty cool. The volume of the container for the beans is OK. I have to refill once or twice a week. That is not a problem. What is a problem is the noise. I couldn't believe it when I first heard it and it makes every kind of conversation totally impossible. One good thing about it is that it really wakes me up in the mornings. The worst thing though is the mess it makes. While grinding, it spills coffee grounds around and becuse the container is dark colored I can’t see how much coffee I have ground (I hate counting seconds). So I take the lid off and voilá: static coffee grounds everywhere! To get rid of the static I shake the continer gently and most of the static will disappear that way. But that maneuver leaves me with more spilled coffee. The wierd shape of the container doesn’t bother me that much, except when I clean it. It’s impossible to get it really clean all the way into the corners. The uniformity of the ground coffee is not the best. The espresso machine I own is not top of the line and I have to grind the coffee as fine as possible to get the best aroma out of the beans. I don’t know if it’s this particular combination of machines or if it’s just the grinder, but I can’t grind as fine as I want because that will clog the machine every time. The MM has 9 settings (where 9 is the coarsest) and I use no: 6 or 7 depending on which coffee I use.
But: I really appreciate the price! If I hadn’t found a grinder at this price I would still be with the ground coffee from the stores. This was what I could afford at the time! This is an important aspect and, after all this machine has really contributed to my love and interest for coffee.
Buying Experience
I didn't go to the store myself for several reasons but the staff is usually nice and helpful. Verner&Verner stores are found all over Sweden and they sell Gaggia and Jura and a few other brands I can't remember at this time. It's a store I can recommend.
