Unbeatable at this price point. Compact, quality build, stepless
Positive Product Points
- Good stepless operation and quality burrs - Good quality grind - Footprint and height is small and convenient - Easy to maintain/tweak
Negative Product Points
- Significant static buildup in the chute - Noisy and can be a little messy - Timer screw can come loose from the timer if you tighten overly quickly with a screwdriver (as in my case)
Detailed Commentary
Overall I have been very pleased with my MC2. I would rate the grind and burr quality as unbeatable at this price point, in fact I would go so far as to say the only grinder that comes close until you spend over double the money is the Ascaso I-Mini.
The grind is of good quality and infinitely adjustable, the adjustment is straightforward if a little time consuming and overly fine. The only issue I have had with the unit is that I overtightened the timer screw causing it to come loose from the timer inside the grinder. This took under 5 minutes to fix by opening the four screws on the base and clicking it back in.
My only minor complaints are the noise which is a little loud and the fact that the timer does not go over 12 seconds. For some coffees this produces an indadequate dose (particularly Indonesian coffees I find for some reason). This only means however that you set it lower (say 8 seconds) and grind twice into the same portafilter. There is some static buildup in the chute (as with all plastic chutes) and this means I have to remove the grinds with a little brush sometimes. For me this is a minor.
The footprint is small and fits very well on my counter under the kitchen cabinets. It is approximately the same height as my Gaggia Classic to give a perspective.
Buying Experience
As always an excellent experience with Happy Donkey. Very happy to recommend.
