Good enough for big amounts of beans, but without my adjustment it is crap for smaller amounts.
Positive Product Points
The Quick Mill 031 has a steel grinding system which is easily adjustable (360 degrees) Removable container for ground coffee. Funnel feeder of 250gr is big enough, especially for private usage. - Noisy!!!! - When using the grinder, the electrical field distorts other electrical signals a bit.
Negative Product Points
- It takes up to 6 minutes to grind small amounts of beans (6 mins for 19 grams). - The finer the grind the more difficult it is to adjust the grinder (you need to use more strength to adjust the grind size and there is only a small ring you can use to adjust the grind size). - There remains a significant amount of grind in the little groove right before it falls into the reservoir.
Detailed Commentary
The Quick Mill 031 is a fine looking grinder. A nice design and it does what it is made for: grinding. Unfortunately everybody in the house will know perfectly well when you are grinding beans, since it is a noisy machine and it distorts the television signal for instance... so you have to be a magician to surprise your friends or partner with a nice espresso or cappuccino.
For grinding big amounts of beans, it is a great machine. It doesnt take that long to grind big amounts, but its always these last 10 or 20 beans that will take easily up to 3 to 4 minutes before they have been ground. These last 20 beans will jump up several times and makes this annoying ticking sound, just to remind you that they are still alive...
However, since I use caffeine beans before 12am and decaffeine beans after 12am, i cannot keep my beans in the funnel feeder all the time.
I only grind 19 grams a time, so my espresso is fresher. however 19 grams is such a small amount that it takes this machine up to 6 minutes to grind all the beans... meaning: my espresso beans are considered old when I will use them to make myself an espresso or cappuccino. These dancing beans have become agony!!! But do not despair! Because i found the perfect solution for my (and maybe your) problem...
I used a PVC pipe and a little weight... I positioned the PVC pipe right above the main hole and put a little PVC ring around the lower end of the first PVC pipe and with some PVC-glue I made sure that the PVC pipe would not rest on the 4 little plastic dots underneath the Funnel Feeder, but instead rest on the Funnel Feeder itself, right where the Funnel starts... I throw the espresso beans inside the pcv pipe and put a little weight on top of them... (my weight is made of a hard plastic knob and some metal on top of that. The weight had a little dot on the bottom and rests on the rotating metal rod whenever the beans have been ground).
With this little adjustment, my beans are ground in 30 seconds and are fresh!! With this adjustment this Quick Mill 031 is one of the best products (for me)... I havent found a solution to the remaining ground inside the groove before it falls into the reservoir, but maybe in some months i'll come up with a solution...
