The best grinder in the sub $300 range that I know of. You can do better, but it will cost you.
Positive Product Points
This is a nice looking grinder (in stainless to match Miss Silvia). It is quiet and there is virtually no static to deal with. Many grinders say this in thier literature. Rocky delivers. No static. Zip. The quality of the grind is excellent - made a huge difference in the quality of espresso I was capable of producing.
Negative Product Points
Some poor fitting lids. The much-maligned doser design definitely deserves the criticism. I know that these units are tested at the factory by grinding actual coffee - but I really didn't need to have my brand new grinder sprinkling coffee grounds all over my sink as I was unwrapping it...
Detailed Commentary
Like most folks here, I did a ton of research into this decision. I knew that the doser was going to be weak point going into this purchase. There are many instructions available on the web to modify the doser to work more efficiently (which I followed, with very positive results).
Beyond that, the fit and finish is definitely lacking in spots. It would be fair to say that I was a little dissapointed by some scratches in the unit as well as some shoddy attention to detail - BUT...
This grinder does what it was designed to do very well. It will do wonders for your espresso production - PERIOD. The actual grinding mechanism is first rate, and honestly, that is what you want this machine to do: grind coffee correctly and consistently. Rocky delivers in a big way here.
The machine is not perfect (as most reviews will tell you), but at the same time, I don't think you can go wrong with this purchase.
Buying Experience
Whole Latte Love did a wonderful job answering questions and delivering quickly. I have grown to take this for granted from them - and that's my mistake. They are great to deal with.
