The Rocky costs more than many are willing to pay. But like so many things in the marketplace, you get what you pay for: Reliability and Quality.
Positive Product Points
Naturally the huge grind range and monster/quiet grinding mechanism is the big virture.
Negative Product Points
Doser leaves something to be desired but unless you do just espresso, its not a show stopper. And then you will tolerate the thing because of the great performance and other features.
Detailed Commentary
Wholelattelove.com sold this for $240 and ‘free‘ shipping. Its their new stainless version and unless you have a counter arraingement where the sides are quite visible, then go $20 less with another finish.
Earlier I used a cheap blade grinder(virtually useless) and a starbucks burr grinder (was grinding for a ten minute period and the thing burned up). Then came the Rocky and all was well.
Although this machine is probably used most by low volume users, it is really a high volume unit(my opinion). So when you grind only a drink or two worth of beans, then you wonder why there even is a doser and doser resevoir. That mechanism appears to me to be set up for a bunch of deliveries.
There is no static discharge of ground beans that the starbucks unit shot my way. And, the thing is so quiet, I grind beans in the mornings with the wife still in bed and never get a complaint. Its heavy and will stay put. If you need to move it regularly, go buy something else.
