Drop another $100 on a Mazzer and forget the Rocky if you're serious about espresso.
Positive Product Points
Cheaper than the big boys (Mazzer), great grind quality, adjustable for espresso to drip and everything in between, tons of resources available online and comes in doser or doserless.
Negative Product Points
Horribly poor construction, loose burr issues, need for modifications often, cheap doser, too often cracked doser.
Detailed Commentary
I choose the the Rocky grinder out of overwhelming advice from the CoffeeGeek community and I regreated it. My first rocky (doser) had a cracked doser which proved its improper packaging from Rancilio (Illy packaged it box-inside-box , but a vendor who will remain nameless told me they come damaged from Rancilio ...). The next Rocky, doserless, had a cracked chute and issues with loose burrs (though never proved). The grinder DOES grind very good compared to cheaper models, but now at a higher price than in 2004, I would not recommend it for someone who is serious. The grinder comes from Rancilio poorly packaged and will cause damage to the grinder.
Depsite my negativity, I truely loved the doserless version. I had no problems with it making a mess and it lowered the amount of coffee I was waisting in a doser. The results proved to be very good, but I was forced to consider modifying it to keep it grinding consistantly.
Buying Experience
Illy.com, who is a good vender and even opted to pick up the grinder (FedEx) free of charge!
