A beast! Built to last. Very consistent grind. Set it and forget it. Looks cool. Doserless version is easy to clean
Negative Product Points
The infamous loose fitting hopper lid. Possible damage to plastic chute during transit due to manufacturer's poor packaging. Mine was broken on arrival.
Detailed Commentary
I love the Rocky Doserless. So many sites stress the importance of an exceptional grinder and I, like many others, didn't believe it at first. I went the cheaper grinder route pairing my Solis SL 70 with a Solis Maestro Plus. I could get an espresso from this grinder within proper time/volume extraction guidelines, but the grind setting would vary constantly. Hour to hour, day to day. I wasted a lot of coffee and was really frustated. Sent it back to Aabree and upped it to the Rocky Doserless. Doserless because I've read so much about the hassle of cleaning the Doser version and how poorly the doser is made. Based on my Solis Maestro experience (which is doserless) I liked the idea of dispensing into a cup. I use a cup because the portafilter holder is too large for my smaller Solis portafilter. If you have a commercial sized portafilter this holder should work very well. As far as the grind goes, it's super consistent. I set the grinder for a specific blend and it never lets me down. I love this grinder's performance, but I've noticed that coffee stays plugged up in the chute opening and heaven forbid any stale coffee grinds wind up in my next shot. I've made a habit of running the grinder a few seconds before each shot and discarding the stale grinds. It becomes a routine and not a big hassle. This bad boy is built so very well. Very heavy and looks like it will last an eternity. I checked out the hefty brass upper burr. It is machined very well and glides on smoothly when replacing in position. Very sharp burr which just feels and looks well made. The grinder's black and silver look cool and go well my SL 70. Cleaning is fairly easy with no doser to deal with. On a final note, my Rocky's chute was broken on arrival. It seems Rancilio doesn't put enough padding in their boxes because I've heard of this happening many times. I called Aabree and they sent out a replacement immediately. There's a minor issue that many people bring up about the power cord coming from the side of the machine. Forget it. It really is a non-issue as far as I'm concerned. To wrap up....Don't chintz on the grinder. Go Rocky and be set for as long as you drink espresso.
Buying Experience
Aabree was awesome. Didn't like Solis and took it back no questions asked. Chute was also replaced asap. In Rocky heaven now.
