I searched for and read all burr grinder reviews I could find for weeks and decided to get a Bodum Antigua for $60 from Costco. They ran out. Back to the "literature" I went and selected the Solis for $120, which was about the max I would let myself spend.
Things I had read about the Solis that had me a bit concerned were:
static in hopper; plastic construction; turn the hopper to adjust fineness of grind; and, the whole issue of not being able to adjust to a fine enough grind aka good espresso grind. Well, I got it, used it immediately, have been using it daily for a month and have no bad things to report.
Static? - no problem for me
Plastic? - what isn‘t?
turn hopper? - works very well and doesn‘t fall off
Fineness? - This is the best feature.
The grinder (my grinder) will absolutely powder the beans and choke my pump machine. It also makes a good coarse grind for my French press. What more can you ask for in a grinder?
Noise? - it‘s crunching beans, you expect silence?? Wankers whine about silence of grinders.
