Bottom Line: Vac pots? Good!... Bodum Santos design? Lose that filter disk...
Positive Product Points

when it works, it works great. I am sold forever on vac coffee pots, great brew.

Negative Product Points

filter disk is a lousy design, clogs about 2/3 of the time.

Detailed Commentary

For $45.00-US, the Bodum Santos is an economical coffee maker. My trouble with it was a result of the filter disk design, which causes it to clog and not "pull down" after brewing. I have a decent burr grinder, and adjusted the grind to as coarse as possible to eliminate the fine grounds (that would turn to "mud" in the upper chamber, and clog the disk), and also tried to stir it to suspend the finer grounds during pulldown.....no dice. At that point, I have to pour the contents of the upper chamber into my french press to strain out the grounds, and the taste is usually ruined. I am advised to buy an antique glass Cory rod to replace the filter disk, and it is in the mail; hopefully that will fix the problem  Bodum could use a little product testing or quality control at the plant.....
