Positive Product Points

The unit looks cool and did make hot coffee, which I insist upon.  It is a good conversation starter if you have company.

Negative Product Points

Hard to clean and it became discolored from the coffee over time.  Given the price, I am disappointed about the short life of the unit.

Detailed Commentary

I purchased this unit in January, 2002, after reading many good things about the coffee produced.  It was somewhat involved to use and clean, but who cares if you get great coffee.  And that was only part of the issue.  The coffee was good, but not great.  And I grind my beans in the morning immediately before brewing.  I purchased the clear unit and found it difficult to keep clean as it had a tendency to discolor.  One cannot get a hand inside the pot for cleaning.  But I continued to use it as I love the whole ritual of preparing coffee for my wife and I.  Then one morning last week, I turned it on as always, and heard a zzzzzttt sound.  It was not wet and had not been wet before using it.  No more coffee pot.  Apparently the base had shorted out and I cannot find a replacement.  Kind of pricey for only lasting 13 months.  Do not think I will buy another.

Buying Experience

I purchased on line when the unit went on sale.
