So many of the reviews I read about this product mentioned that this machine was hard to clean.  In the end, its not any more difficult to clean than a French Press.  I would recommend cleaning just after use.

For better quality flavor and strength I would recommend the following:

1. Use about 15% more coffee grounds than instructed by Bodum.
   
   
2. Grind closer to espresso fineness. With my Rancilio Rocky I set it at 27.  
   
   
3. When the water start to fill the upper part and exit the upper part, be sure to stir the mixer.  
   
   
4. Only use high quality freshly roasted beans.
   
   

When brewing using the above advise, this machine produces the best totally infused cup of coffee that is dark black in color, strong, smooth and has a full-body flavor that exceeds the French Press in terms of flavor extraction.  Best of all its free of cloudy murk of other brewing methods.
