As someone who spends quite a bit of money on coffee each month for what I feel is quality stuff, I was beginning to get frustrated with my Braun Automatic drip coffeemaker. I would buy the beans from Starbucks and no matter how I ground them, or how much or little I added to the filter, I could never make a cup as good as Starbucks. I saw the Utopia in the store once and almost gagged at the site of it. It looks so strange, but I thought, "hey, I bet that would make a good conversation piece for somebody."
Anyway, this past Father‘s day rolled around and my family gave me a gift cert. for starbucks. I thought I‘d get a new coffeepot or something. Well, I started taking another look at the Utopia. And thought, what the heck, it‘s soo darn weird, it might work!
I got it home and seasoned it, and set it up to automatically brew 6 cups the next morning - they threw in a 1/2 lb. of Mexican blend. Anyway, the next morning, I was ironing a shirt and the pot started up...in a quiet house, it‘s about like hearing a jet plane firing up in the kitchen. Well, after it was done with it‘s show, I poured off a cup and low and behold, it was bold and delicious! I took the rest to work with me and drank it throughout the morning. It was so good, I was regretting getting to the last drop...and in actuality, it almost seems the more this coffee cools, the better it tastes! I have no idea why the cold version of what this coffeemaker produces sticks out so much in my mind - I guess I usually burn my toungue on the hot stuff, so I never really get to taste it - the cold stuff just seems so rich and full. |
