Bonjour is well manufactured, well designed, aestheticly pleasing, and consistant in the processing coffee to a cup of that wonderful elixir.
Positive Product Points
The Bonjour is an attractive kitchen to table press. I feel comfortable aestheticly serving our guests coffee direct from the kitchen. The glass bowl is easily removable for cleaning. The glass bowl does't scar or hold oily residue. The press can process coffee at a faster rate than our perculators. We keep several 3 cup presses available because of the different blends of coffee we serve. This french press allows flexibility. The Bonjour has a tighter pressing seal than some of the less expensive models, a plus to prevent grounds filtering into coffee. This brand has the steel top on the larger size which I like better than the silicone/plastic top as the cheaper brands. It is more secure when pressing.
Negative Product Points
The wires around the base of the press plunger can be difficult to clean. It has a tendency to hold oily residue. I have to use a toothbrush to clean it thoroughly. The other negative is the coffee cools quicker in the glass bowl vs a steel bowll I had an old press made of stainless I bought in France in the 70's that finally wore out and replaced it with the Bonjour. But the Bonjour doesn't come with stainless bowl, which I miss. I do not like the plastic lid on the smaller quanity press. It is does not endure the use at our in and iit seems wobbly when pressing. The plastic bowl model I would avoid...it scars, holds oils, and after a much use I have found it had a plastic after taste. I threw it away!
Detailed Commentary
Overall, I find I like the Bonjour press with the steel lid the best available. This model is very affordable, attractive and efficient in making coffee. It withstands the use and overall easier to clean than the inexpensive models. The glass bowl has not scarred over the years, which happens with the plastic bowl models. The steel wire base plunger has not lost its seal over the years which proves that it is of quality and withstands the constant cleaning. The wires on the bottom sometimes can be difficult to clean but I find a soft toothbrush and course salt works effectively without damaging the wires. Multiple presses of this model are great for making various blends of coffees for those of particular taste, such as decaffinated, flavored and blends . I have added spices to the coffee in the press and it has worked positively without hindering the pressing plunger. The Bonjour french press is a positive addition with minimal negative points to any "coffeegeek's" collection.
Buying Experience
I purchased my first french press in France in the early 1970's during a holiday there. It was stainless steel because I was afraid a glass one would break in my suitcase. My coffee tasting and experiences started in the early 70's when visiting my sister-in-law in San Fransico, CA. She got me hooked of the art of enjoying coffee. I have owned Bonjour,Faberware, Kitchenaide, Mr Coffee, Starbucks, Hamilton, and other off brand coffee makers over the years. I like the Faberware perculators, steam infused piston espresso machine , Ibrik, and the french presses for my coffee making needs.
