Detailed Commentary
I used to hate coffee... only ever drank from drip style Mr. Coffee type machines, which sucks horribly. Then about 5 years ago, my dad exposed me to old stove top percolated coffee, and I was like WOW! This is good. I started drinking coffee pretty regularly at this point. Fresh ground coffee was my next epiphony in coffee drinking. It went from good.. to better.. Now, with my Cory DRU/DRL setup, coffee drinking has finally moved to the place of an addiction! This stuff is so good, it makes el cheapo canned coffee taste good... and fresh ground, good quality beans turn into the most flavorful perfect cup of coffee anyone could ask for. I have my dad to thank for this huge step in coffee brewing. Over a year ago, while my dad was shopping at a flea market, he came across the Cory DRU3 top vessel. He didnt have a clue WHAT it was... and when he gave it to me, I didnt know what it was. So, into my closet of old stuff it went. One day about a three weeks ago, I was in the closet checking a fermenter with fermenting beer in it and I saw it on the shelf. So, I pulled it out, started digging around on the net and found out what it was. I decided I had to have the bottom piece, and found a auction on ebay selling the DRL bottom vessel and a filter rod. So 15.00 later (including shipping) I won and purchased the pot. It arrived about a week ago, and even though it seems pretty fragile glass wise, its been used many many times... Geezz... Is there really ANY other way to have coffee then Vac-brewed?? I dont think so...LMAO.
Buying Experience
Top was a gift from my dad, and the bottom was an ebay purchase. Definitely get one but dont be hooked into a big bidding war... there are TONS of these and other models on ebay regularly... be patient and get a good deal.
Three Month Followup
After 3 months of using this vac-pot coffee system I have to say that I am immensely pleased. I've gotten my processes for brewing MY perfect pot of coffee down to a perfect science, and I'll not be making coffee any other way in the forseeable future.
